Job description
Overview

Are you interested in working within the criminal justice system in a core role supporting the police? Do you have the empathy to work with vulnerable people? We are looking for people who want to make a difference working alongside the Police in custody suites, caring for detainees, supporting them during time spent in custody, completing forensic samples, and working with other agencies to support detainee rehabilitation. Previous experience in police/security/armed forces would be beneficial, but we will train you in full on an Initial Training Course even without previous experience. You will be expected to use a computer and various programs competently. The role requires flexibility to work not only in your base Custody suite but across an assigned region in the Police Custody Suites and Force area.

Responsibilities
  • Support detainees during custody and assist with their care and wellbeing needs.
  • Complete forensic samples and follow individual plans; record observations as required.
  • Work with colleagues and other agencies to aid detainee rehabilitation.
  • Escort detainees as part of the custody process and operate within a small team alongside Police Officers.
  • Participate in training and development to deliver this role with integrity and respect.
Qualifications
  • Previous Police/Security/forces experience would be beneficial.
  • Reasonable level of spoken and written English and basic numeracy.
  • Competent in IT and using a computer.
  • Full valid driving licence.
  • Must have Right to Work in the UK, British Passport or ILR for 3 years, with no long gaps out of the country (more than 3 months).
  • All candidates are subject to police vetting checks; a clean driving/criminal record is essential.
What you can earn / Schedule
  • Salary of £27,518.40 on a 4-shift pattern (2 days, 2 nights) then 4-shift off, with averages around 42 hours per week.
  • Rota planned 2 years in advance to help you plan your life.
  • Contractual patterns with the customer; opportunities for part-time or mutually agreed "Bank" contracts exist, but all employees are expected to work full shifts with some night shifts for part-time roles.
  • Referral bonus: £150 for each colleague who successfully joins.
Additional notes

The custody suites can be energetic places to work, with no two shifts the same. Training includes a 3-week initial training course (ITC) Monday to Friday 8am–5pm on full pay, followed by continued development and opportunities for growth within the role.
