NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Main Duties of the Job
  • Provide medical support and guidance to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Work as part of multidisciplinary teams providing care to children and young people with mental health needs across Southend, Essex, and Thurrock.
  • Work directly with young people and their families and liaise with external CAMHS providers and acute hospitals.
  • Support peers and team leader and be an effective team member while allowing them to work with their own initiative.
  • Work alongside a Consultant in the service.
  • Commit to collaborative working, actively supporting and liaising with other health and social professionals and agencies.

Person Specification
GMC
  • Full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
Section 12
  • Section 12 certification, or a commitment to work towards this.
Clinical
  • Mastery in the management of a broad range of mental disorders in children, including neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • At least 4 years of full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent on part-time basis) of which at least 2 years will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
  • Experience in managing patients from different cultural backgrounds. Working with interpreters and translators.
Knowledge
  • Good knowledge of the biological, psychological and social determinants of mental health disorders and evidence-based management interventions.
  • Up to date knowledge of recent DH documentation and NICE Guidelines.
