A leading NHS organization is looking for a Band 5 Research Nurse to join their team in Oxford. You will deliver exceptional care to research participants and gain valuable experience in mental health and neuroscience clinical research. Clinical experience in mental health is a must, while research experience is not required as full training will be provided. Enjoy flexible working options, excellent career progression, and a supportive culture. Additional benefits include generous annual leave and a competitive pension scheme.
As a Band 5 Research Nurse, working in the only Mental Health CRF in the UK, you will be part of our friendly, multidisciplinary team, delivering exceptional care to research participants throughout their study journey. The CRF at Warneford hosts a range of studies – from NIHR and grant‑funded research to commercial clinical trials, including observational cohorts, CTIMPs and Phase I/II drug studies across conditions such as schizophrenia, depression and dementia. Our research is at the cutting edge; no two studies are the same, providing opportunities for innovation and collaborative teamwork. You will gain experience in mental health and neuroscience clinical research. Clinical experience in the field of mental health is essential, but research experience is not required as extensive training and induction are provided. RN, RMN, LD or other registrations will be considered. If you are based outside the UK you must be fully qualified, have already passed your OSCE, and hold an NMC pin number to be considered for this role.
The Clinical Research Nurse works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver research protocols. This includes recruitment activity, as well as the usual processes associated with research delivery: protocol management, consent, visit activity, data collection, sample collection and processing. The CRF supports the development of nursing technical skills to meet study requirements – for example, skin biopsies, lumbar punctures, intravenous delivery of study medicines and sub‑cutaneous/IM injections. You will work under supervision on complex studies and coordinate across many organisations within and outside Oxford, including NHS services, R&D departments and university research centres. Clinical skills and care are essential; you will be responsible for assessing and managing care pathways for study participants and applying an in‑depth knowledge of clinical study protocols in practice, while ensuring compliance with local, national and international research regulations.
Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust has been rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Our Trust values caring, safe and excellent, and we work with a wide range of partner organisations to deliver care close to home for people across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Swindon, Wiltshire, Bath and North East Somerset. We actively support anti‑racism, equality, diversity and inclusion, encouraging applications from under‑represented groups such as people with disabilities, men from all socio‑economic backgrounds, diverse ethnic backgrounds and the LGBTQIA+ community. The OH CRF has been awarded more than £4 million over the next five years by the NIHR and is one of 28 facilities across England to benefit from nearly £161 million for early‑phase clinical research. CRF studies span research‑ready observational cohorts to Phase I/II drug studies, closely collaborating with Oxford University researchers. Nurses have opportunities for training with NIHR, UKCRF, the University of Oxford, commercial trial companies and can expand their research experience by working with leaders at the University of Oxford Department of Psychiatry and Oxford Brookes University.
