Consultant in Haematology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Consultant to work in Haematology and join our team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to be involved in the future development of Haematology services, for which there is a high level of commitment within the Trust, and with partner organisations. The post will be based at the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, however the post holder will be expected to work across the two hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be undertaking inpatient and outpatient work. The post holder is encouraged to develop his/her own sub-specialty interest. Applications are encouraged from experienced consultants wishing to take up a new challenge or newly accredited consultants who will be supported through our highly regarded development programmes. There are 2 dedicated ACPs for Haematology that provide follow up clinics, telephone advice lines and supports the junior doctors and nursing staff. The department also has a Haematology specialist nurse who supports the cancer patients through their pathway.

There is a dedicated Oncology/Haematology ward based on the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary site and an assessment area for ward attenders. There are two dedicated day case facilities, one on Greenlea unit at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, that opened in October 2015. The other is in the Macmillan Unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital. The Trust has a Chemotherapy Clinical Nurse Specialist and a well-established Chemotherapy Team to support.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • All applicants must have Specialist registration for Haematology (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK) but consideration will be given to applicants with relevant consultant level experience or trainees in a UK training scheme who are within 6 months of attaining specialist registration.
  • Applicants must be Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise
Experience and Achievements
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of the Haematology specialty
  • Also, should have significant minor procedures experience and any other post graduate qualifications that can advance the department needs would be preferable
  • Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
  • Attendance at a recognised management course
  • Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
Teaching and Training
  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
  • Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision
  • Attendance at a teaching course
