Qualifications

Job description
Overview

Aureos are recruiting for a Construction Manager to join our team in Swindon. The Construction Manager will act on behalf of the Contractor (Aureos) as the on-site lead for construction delivery, responsible for fulfilling the duties of the CDM Contractor under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

Operating within an NEC contract environment, the role is accountable for the safe, compliant, and programme-led delivery of a Main Intake Substation refurbishment on a nuclear licensed site, ensuring alignment with NEC early warning, risk reduction, and collaborative working principles.

Key Responsibilities
NEC Contract Delivery
  • Deliver construction activities in accordance with NEC contract obligations, supporting the Project Manager in:
  • Early Warnings and Risk Reduction Meetings
  • Compensation Event identification and mitigation
  • Programme acceptance and look-ahead planning
  • Provide accurate construction input into the Accepted Programme, including sequencing, access constraints, outages, and commissioning activities.
  • Proactively manage construction risks, constraints, and change in line with NEC best practice.
CDM Principal Contractor Duties
  • Discharge the full duties of the Principal Contractor under CDM 2015, including:
  • Planning, managing, and monitoring construction work to ensure it is carried out safely
  • Coordinating contractors and subcontractors on site
  • Ensuring suitable site inductions, welfare, and supervision arrangements
  • Develop, review, and implement:
  • Construction Phase Plan
  • RAMS, permits, lifting plans, and temporary works
  • Ensure cooperation and coordination with the Principal Designer and Client.
Construction & Technical Delivery
  • Lead all on-site construction activities associated with the Main Intake Substation refurbishment, including:
  • HV/LV systems, transformers, switchgear, earthing, protection systems
  • Civils, bunds, foundations, ducts, and containment
  • Enabling works, outages, isolations, and phased handover
  • Coordinate subcontractors, OEMs, and specialist vendors in a controlled nuclear environment.
  • Manage interfaces with live systems and operational stakeholders to minimise disruption.
Nuclear Safety, Security & Assurance
  • Lead by example in promoting a strong nuclear safety culture, ensuring strict adherence to:
  • Nuclear Site Licence Conditions
  • AWE safety rules, permit systems, and security protocols
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including:
  • CDM Regulations 2015
  • Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER)
  • Support audits, surveillance, and regulatory inspections.
Quality Management
  • Ensure construction works comply with specifications, drawings, ITPs, and quality plans.
  • Manage inspection hold points, NCRs, and corrective actions in collaboration with QA/QC teams.
  • Ensure construction records are complete, accurate, and ready for handover.
Programme, Cost & Resource Management
  • Manage daily and weekly construction planning, resource allocation, and productivity.
  • Identify potential delays, risks, and opportunities, escalating through NEC early warning processes.
  • Support cost control by minimising rework, inefficiencies, and programme slippage.
Stakeholder & Interface Management
  • Act as the Contractor’s primary site interface with:
  • Client construction and engineering teams
  • Principal Designer
  • SAPs / APs and commissioning engineers
  • Safety, security, and assurance functions
  • Provide clear, concise reporting on progress, risks, and mitigation actions.
Experience & Qualifications

Experience

  • Proven experience as a Construction Manager or Site Manager acting for a Principal Contractor.
  • Strong experience delivering projects under NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4).
  • Demonstrable experience delivering HV electrical infrastructure / substations in regulated environments.
  • Experience working on nuclear licensed sites or comparable high-hazard environments.
Qualifications
  • SMSTS (mandatory)
  • CSCS Black Card
  • Sound knowledge of CDM 2015 duties
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or Construction Management (desirable)
  • Temporary Works Coordinator (desirable)
  • AP / SAP experience (highly desirable)
