About the role

Balfour Beatty has a fantastic opportunity for a Construction Director to join their rapidly expanding Power Transmission and Distribution team. The successful individual will have experience of working on large, complex major scale projects. Reporting to the Project Director the role will provide management and leadership to a multi-disciplinary team and determine the most appropriate means of satisfying customer/project requirements.

The role will be based from our offices in Elgin, Scotland with requirement for regular site visits.

With the Power business in a key stage of growth, there is plenty of scope for development in this role and it would suit someone with ambition and drive to grow with the business.

What you'll be doing
  • Assess the suitability of the project construction at all stages aligns with the business and stakeholder objectives.
  • Supervise all construction/design team involved to provide feedback and resolve complex problems.
  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in legislation.
  • Report on pre-construction and construction performance.
  • Manage the structure, focus and discipline of the Construction Team.
  • Ensure and maintain resource levels required for successful programme delivery.
  • Ensure procurement plans are available in line with the overall project plans, such that material/resources/supply chain can be delivered to meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Escalate any issues that cannot be resolved at delegated level of authority.
  • Accountable for KPIs in line with project objectives and monitor performance.
  • Champion ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people.
  • Maximise the use of planning & project controls tools to establish realistic baselines throughout the team.
  • Ownership of budget, cost control and cost recovery, setting project/portfolio targets accordingly.
  • Advocate consistency and reliability of digital data to support successful project delivery – data driven decisions.
Who we're looking for
  • Proven track record in managing and leading large teams on major scale Infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrable experience of safe operational delivery and experienced in the delivery of lean construction techniques.
  • Experienced in the recruitment and development of talent within the business, including mentoring, stretch and challenge for junior team members and ensuring clearly defined development plans are in place.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Wide ranging independent judgement evident, proven track record in this regard.
  • Acceptance of responsibility of role, and actively seeks opportunities to enhance personal performance.
