CONSULTANT HAEMATOLOGIST WITH AN INTEREST IN RED CELLS AND NON MALIGNANT HAEMATOLOGY

The haematology team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our friendly and forward thinking service. The successful candidate will have an interest in non‑malignant haematology; red cells and general haematology are essential requirements but there is flexibility in the remainder of the job plan based on the specific interest of the successful candidate. The appointee will join a team of 5 consultants and 1 associate specialist haematologists and will participate in a non‑malignant haematology, non‑resident on call on a 1 in 5 basis.

NUH is one of the largest acute teaching hospitals in the UK and is host to centres of excellence for clinical research, life sciences and technology. We play a vital role in education and training and as a teaching trust we have a strong relationship with our colleagues at the universities across the East Midlands.

Team & Services
  • Specialist haemoglobinopathy service for patients in Nottinghamshire in collaboration with the East Midlands Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Network; supported by 2 paediatric haematologists, 4 specialist nurses and local haemoglobinopathy coordinating centres for sickle cell and thalassaemia in Leicester and Birmingham respectively.
  • General haematology service covering a wide range of diagnoses including immune haematology and myeloproliferative diseases and also receives specialist nursing support.
  • Regional centre for the management of TTP (National Blood and Transplant Service); post holder will provide on‑call cover.
  • Specific Nottingham Haemostasis and Thrombosis services including the Comprehensive Care Centre for Haemophilia; supported by nurse‑led anticoagulation and DVT follow‑up services.
Responsibilities
  • Provide senior support for non‑malignant clinical and laboratory services.
  • Attend clinics in red cells and general haematology.
  • Inpatient attending on an alternate month basis, shared with and supported by the consultant team.
  • Incorporate undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, educational supervision, research and leadership roles within the specialty, depending on interests.

  • Flexibility to undertake further clinical work in related areas of non‑malignant haematology.
