Complex Needs Teacher – Secondary Special School – South Birmingham

A caring and forward-thinking secondary special school in South Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Complex Needs Teacher to join their team and make a difference. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting young people with complex learning needs and wants to work in a calm, structured, and supportive environment. The school is looking for a Complex Needs Teacher who can provide a nurturing environment for students and inspire a love for learning.

This role involves teaching secondary-aged students with a range of complex needs, including Autism, severe learning difficulties, and associated communication or sensory needs. Classes are small, well supported, and focused on helping students develop academically, socially, and emotionally at their own pace. You will work closely with experienced Teaching Assistants and a leadership team that prioritises staff wellbeing and pupil outcomes.

The role will involve:
  • Teaching small classes of Key Stage 3 and 4 students with complex learning needs
  • Planning and delivering personalised, differentiated lessons tailored to individual EHCP targets
  • Creating a calm, structured, and nurturing classroom environment
  • Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants to provide consistent support
  • Supporting students with communication, independence, and life skills
  • Monitoring progress and contributing to reviews and multi-disciplinary meetings
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching students with complex needs or SEND (desirable but not essential)
  • A patient, flexible, and creative approach to teaching
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for students with SEND
