Job summary

Caerphilly County Borough Council is seeking a Community Safety Control Room Operator for the Tir y Berth location. The role involves monitoring CCTV, handling out-of-hours calls, and supervising building alarm systems in a shift-based schedule. It requires good communication skills and IT competence.

The position is part-time (15 hours per week), fixed term until 31/03/2028, with an attractive NJC salary band and benefits, including LGPS pension and staff discounts.

Qualifications

• 5 GCSEs Grade A-C including Maths and English or equivalent.
• Experience in a job which required working with the public and delivering a service.
• IT skills particularly Microsoft Word and Outlook Express.

Responsibilities

• Operate CCTV Public Open Space surveillance systems, Out of Hours Emergency Calls and Buildings Alarm Activated surveillance in accordance with procedures and Codes of Practice.
• Demonstrate good communications/listening skills, attention to detail, and be able to work in a control room environment.
• Be available to a shift pattern, with hours in the evening.

Responsibilities

The main duties are to operate the C.C.T.V Public Open Space surveillance systems, Out of Hours Emergency Calls and Buildings Alarm Activated surveillance systems in a conscientious and efficient manner, in accordance with specified operating procedures and Codes of Practice.

The successful candidates will need to demonstrate good communications / listening skills, attention to detail, I.T. skills and have previous experience in a job that required working with the public and delivering a service or working within a Control room environment. The successful candidates must be available to a shift pattern.

Qualifications & Requirements

About the Control Room

The Control Room currently manages 170+ public CCTV cameras, monitors 90+ Council owned premises and provides the Authority's Out of Hours Service taking over 6000 calls per year covering mainly Housing, Highways and Environmental issues.
