Community Midwife – Derwentside Community Team

County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a committed, enthusiastic Band 6 midwife to join our community midwifery team based at Shotley Bridge Hospital.

We are seeking a community midwife who is passionate about working in partnership with women, families and the multidisciplinary team to provide personalised, evidence‑based care.

Closing date is 06 January 2026

Main responsibilities
  • Plan, implement and evaluate individualised care plans for women, ensuring holistic and research‑based care.
  • Facilitate antenatal and postnatal continuity of care and support the delivery of an outstanding, patient‑centred service.
  • Management of caseloads autonomously, planning diary and ensuring that women and families are at the centre of everything.
  • Participate in the induction programme and support continual professional development.
  • Collaborate with maternity units at University Hospital North Durham and Darlington Memorial.
  • Support home birth service and further develop important areas of care.
Qualifications and experience
  • Registered Midwife with current UK registration and NMC PIN.
  • Band 6 midwife with preceptorship or post‑preceptorship experience.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development, recognised teaching/assessing qualification, NIPE practitioner.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team.
  • Approachability and ability to build relationships with a wide variety of colleagues.
Statutory registration
  • Registered Nurse (adult or child) on part 1 of the NMC register.
  • Valid UK NMC PIN.
