Community Garden Coordinator - $8.00/hour

Position Title: Community Garden Coordinator – $8.00/hour

Position Type: Student (Part-time)

Campus: Main Campus (Grantham)

Supervisor: Katelyn Galyen

Work Period: 2025-26 (Spring, Summer, Fall)

Hours Per Week: 8 during the spring and fall semesters; 40 during the summer – must be willing to start work early during summer months to avoid the hottest part of the day.

Position Summary

The Office of Sustainability at Messiah University cultivates an environment for across campus coordination of sustainability thought and action through the development of student leadership. The Community Garden Coordinator will facilitate and manage the people and projects of the community garden for the duration of the calendar year. This position will be required to work as part of the summer garden team (please see summer garden worker job description for more details).

Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare for growing season including seed orders, planting schedule, and seed germination
  • Recruit, manage and track volunteers
  • Complete necessary farm tasks, such as planting, weeding, watering, pest management and maintenance
  • Organize and run market farm stands (including but not limited to mass emails, posters, word of mouth, etc.)
  • Track income and expenses
  • Collect data related to produce planted and create reports documenting the successes and failures of the garden
  • Coordinate care for campus chickens
  • When necessary provide care to campus apiary
  • Send emails to CSA and campus community for garden events/updates
  • Update content for sustainability website and make Instagram/Facebook posts
  • Document work of garden through photos, social media, etc.
  • Attend garden events and functions such as work days and team meetings
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance
Qualifications
  • Familiarity and volunteer experience with the Office of Sustainability and the Grantham Community Garden is a plus
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • Ability to influence and lead peers
  • Strong communication, both verbally and in writing
  • Passionate about implementing sustainability solutions to the campus environment
Special Working Conditions

Must be available for most of Spring 2026, all Summer 2026, and most of Fall 2026. Flexible working hours.
