The role:

Apply to become a Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) Community and Support Volunteer and join our fantastic team of volunteers to make a difference in your communities. By giving just 6 hours a month of your free time to volunteer with GMFRS you can really make a difference.

In this role you will be delivering informative, educational safety messages and supporting our mission: ‘Saving lives, protecting communities, working together’.

As a Community and Support Volunteer you will be offered opportunities to help reduce risk of fire, road traffic collisions and water incidents by engaging and educating members of our communities as well as supporting our crews at operational exercises when you play a live casualty helping to create a more realistic and challenging training scenario.

Whether you want to develop your skills, knowledge and experience to improve your employability, or to share your life experience and make new friends or simply give something back to your community, this is a great opportunity for you.

About you:

  • Passionate about keeping people safe from fire and other dangers
  • Reliable, punctual and committed
  • Willing and able to provide 6 hours volunteering or participate in two activities a month
  • Able to communicate effectively with a range of people from different backgrounds and communities; additional languages, including BSL are a benefit but not a requirement for the role
  • A supporter of equality, diversity and inclusivity
