Job description

Do you have the analytical capability to turn complex online and offline trading data into clear commercial actions?

Are you commercially minded, with experience spotting growth opportunities and performance risks across sales channels?

Are you ready to optimise trading performance by translating insight into recommendations for stakeholders across the business?

MacGregor Black is currently partnering with a leading consumer goods business seeking a commercially driven Commercial Trading Analyst to analyse and translate data across both online and offline trading sources, supporting performance optimisation and growth. You’ll combine strong commercial acumen with analytical expertise, operating in a cross-functional environment and working closely with internal teams to drive smarter decision‑making. This is a permanent role (hybrid) based in Surrey.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and report on daily, weekly, and monthly KPIs across online and offline trading, including sales, margin, conversion, traffic, AOV, and stock availability (where relevant).
  • Analyse performance across key channels (e.g., D2C, marketplaces, retail, wholesale, store/ePOS), highlighting opportunities and risks.
  • Translate trading data into clear insights and actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Support promotional planning and campaign evaluation by assessing performance, impact, and ROI.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and reporting frameworks that provide clarity on trading trends and drivers.
  • Identify underperforming categories, SKUs, regions, or customer segments and recommend corrective actions.
  • Partner with commercial, marketing, and merchandising teams to align trading activity with wider business priorities.
  • Analyse customer behaviour and product performance to inform trading strategy and commercial decision‑making.
  • Support testing and optimisation initiatives (e.g., A/B testing, journey improvements, promotional mechanics).
  • Track competitor activity and market trends to inform recommendations and trading plans.
  • Contribute to forecasting and budget planning through insight, trend analysis, and performance modelling.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and planning teams to ensure stock and availability support trading priorities.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience using tools such as Google Analytics, Looker Studio, Power BI, Tableau or similar.
  • Experience working in a commercial trading, performance, or analytics role, ideally within consumer goods, retail, or e‑commerce.
  • Advanced Excel / Google Sheets capability, including confidence working with large datasets.
  • Strong data visualisation and storytelling skills – able to make insights clear and compelling for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to connect performance metrics to business outcomes (sales, margin, profitability).
  • Comfortable working cross‑functionally with teams such as commercial, marketing, merchandising, finance, and supply chain.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
