Job description

We are seeking an experienced CMM Engineer to join our established metrology team. This role is ideal for someone already working in a CMM programming, applications, or quality engineering position who is looking to step into a broader, more customer‑facing applications and training role within a specialist metrology environment.

Job Title: CMM Engineer

Location: Nottingham

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 PA

The position is varied and consultative in nature, combining technical CMM programming, measurement support, customer training, and onsite engineering support. You will work closely with customers across a range of high‑precision industries, delivering practical solutions and expert technical guidance. There is also a clear pathway for the successful candidate to further develop as a software trainer and technical consultant, supported by an experienced team.

CMM Engineer Key Responsibilities
  • Programming and supporting CMM inspections using industry‑standard software
  • Interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection requirements
  • Producing clear, accurate inspection reports and explaining results to customers
  • Providing technical and software support via remote tools, phone, and onsite visits
  • Delivering CMM software demonstrations and customer training
  • Carrying out onsite consultancy, measurement support, and business reviews
  • Using portable measuring arms and scanning technologies where required
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with customers
  • Supporting internal sales and business development activities
  • Liaising with service, sales, and technical teams to deliver customer solutions
  • Managing your own workload, deadlines, and travel commitments
What You’ll Be Learning & Doing as a CMM Engineer
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Learning to program CMMs using industry‑leading software
  • Creating clear inspection reports and presenting measurement results
  • Supporting customers with technical and software queries (remote and onsite)
  • Assisting with demonstrations and eventually delivering customer training
  • Carrying out onsite measurement and inspection activities
  • Working with portable measuring equipment and scanning technologies
  • Building strong relationships with customers and internal teams
  • Managing your workload effectively while working independently
What We’re Looking For
  • Background in engineering, metrology, or quality
  • Proven experience programming CMMs in a production or applications environment
  • Experience with PC‑DMIS, PolyWorks, or comparable CMM software
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and measurement principles
  • Confident working onsite with customers and providing technical support
  • IT literate, commercially aware, and well organised
