Job description
Overview

The post is based in General Paediatrics and the post holder will work at registrar/ST4+ level. The clinical component of the post encompasses PED, inpatient wards and outpatient clinics. Baseline working is 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and the on‑call out‑of‑hours commitment is a contribution to a 10‑person middle‑grade rota made up of late shifts (including a twilight shift), long days and nights.

Responsibilities
  • Provide on‑site leadership and supervision of SHOs in paediatrics and emergency medicine for patients presenting with medical illness while covering the ED.
  • Under the supervision of the attending consultant, manage day‑to‑day care of patients on the in‑patient paediatric and young people’s units during on‑call commitments, including ward rounds and decision‑making.
  • Communicate with nursing staff and other health professionals to ensure coordinated care.
  • Teach medical students informally at the bedside and in groups; may also be asked to teach nursing staff.
