Overview

The Clinical Support Worker (CSW) supports the delivery of high‑quality patient care in outpatient clinics. The CSW works alongside registered nurses and clinicians to assist with minor operations, patient preparation, and a range of clinical duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in patient hygiene, grooming, and dressing while respecting religious, cultural, and personal preferences.
  • Prepare the clinical area for safe practice, ensuring cleanliness and readiness of equipment.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
  • Perform care duties such as capillary blood glucose monitoring, pregnancy testing, urinalysis, ECG, removal of urinary catheters, and wound management of non‑complex wounds.
  • Assist in minor operations, including prepping surgical trolleyies and ANTT, and assist in eye assessments with eye drop administration.
  • Support patient mobility, prepare the environment, and position patients to maximise physical comfort using trained equipment.
  • Undertake and document patient observations (temperature, automated blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, conscious level, height, weight, oxygen saturation levels).
  • Assist in the care of patient pressure areas and prevention of pressure damage, undertaking risk assessments and recording relevant documentation.
  • Chaperone patients as required, ensuring appropriate support within clinic rooms.
  • Actively support and alleviate distress and anxiety of patients, relatives, and visitors, seeking support from registered staff as needed.
  • Support patients with dementia/cognitive impairment.
  • Use infection prevention techniques, including waste management, hand washing and PPE.
  • Obtain and handle specimens from patients for clinic or laboratory testing.
  • Maintain clinical records on a digital clinical notes system.
Qualifications and Requirements

To complete and achieve the Care Certificate within the first 3 months of employment.
