Job description

The Clinical Sub-Dean (Welfare) is responsible for leading and delivering welfare provision for medical students in the clinical years of the course. The Clinical Sub-Dean for Welfare is a member of the Clinical School Deanery Team and will therefore have a wider role in medical education in Cambridge, contributing to the strategic development of all three programmes: the standard course, the graduate course and the MBPhD programme. The postholder will do a mixture of direct pastoral meetings with students, liaison with other support services (especially colleges) and meetings to discuss provision and development of welfare services.

Welfare support is provided in partnership with several organisations: Cambridge Colleges, the University Mental Health Service, the Clinical Student Mental Health Service, NHS, Occupational Health and the Access and Disability Resource Centre. The sub-dean is supported by a 3PA Deputy Lead for Welfare and a dedicated welfare admin team.

The role is based in the Education Division Offices of the Clinical School. The majority of work will be face‑face. The weekly time commitment is 4 programmed activities per week (0.4 FTE / 4 PA per week). This will be paid at the appropriate rate with respect to seniority and the postholder will be employed either through secondment from their NHS trust (NHS consultants) or a fractional contract with the university (GPs). The candidate should be working as a consultant or fully‑trained GP within the Eastern region. All candidates for the post should hold full GMC registration and a license to practice.

Fixed‑term: The funds for this post are available for 5 years in the first instance.

This appointment requires an Honorary Clinical Contract.
