Overview

Positive Directions (Vanguard) AHP Team – Trauma Informed Practice, Children and Young People. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist (0.4 WTE, fixed term until end of March 2027). Positive Directions is an ICB funded initiative that uses a social prescribing model with trauma‑informed practice to offer targeted support to children and young people least likely to have their needs met through mainstream support. The AHP team includes Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy.

The role provides occupational therapy assessment, clinical reasoning and clinical recommendations, primarily through consultation to practitioners working directly with children and young people in community, hospital and school settings. The role is emerging and requires clinical leadership and an innovative approach, in conjunction with the AHP Directorate Lead. It is supported by an Advanced OT who will provide supervisory support. Secondments will be considered in line with the CWPT acting up and Secondment policy.

Responsibilities

• Deliver OT assessment, clinical reasoning and recommendations to support children and young people in community, hospital and school settings. • Consult with practitioners to embed trauma‑informed, child‑centred practice. • Provide clinical leadership and engage in the development, evaluation and delivery of this unique OT role. • Undertake supervisory support for the advanced OT and oversee the AHP team. • Explore and advocate for innovative approaches within the programme.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge and skills in OT assessment and intervention.
  • Understanding and ability to practice in a child‑centred way.
  • Ability to locate up‑to‑date research, evidence and governance relevant to the clinical area and integrate it into practice.
Experience
  • Evidence of effective caseload management.
  • Experience of supervising qualified staff and students.
Desirable
  • Significant experience and competence in working with children and young people.
  • Significant experience and competence in working in a community setting with people experiencing mental ill health.
