Job description

We are looking to recruit a full time Band 8a Clinical Psychologist to one of our busy and friendly S-CAMHS locality teams in Hywel Dda University Health Board.

The locality team covers the Pembrokeshire area and the post is based in the Preseli Centre, Withybush General Hospital in Haverfordwest. Hywel Dda has four S-CAMHS MDTs across its footprint, and there is a clinical psychologist based in each of them.

The locality teams link with specialised services and with colleagues in the primary part of the service. All of the psychologists in S-CAMHS sit within a wider Psychology Department which includes psychologists in Perinatal Mental Health, Early Intervention for Psychosis and the Neurodevelopmental Team, which creates a diverse and supportive psychology workforce with strong links.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for the provision of Psychology within the multi-disciplinary team, including the supervision of Assistant Psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists.They will be part of a very friendly multi-disciplinary team which values its Psychology colleagues.

Clinical duties will include completing Choice, Partnership and Specific work, within the framework of the Mental Health Measure (2010). Special interests are encouraged whenever possible and there are regularly opportunities to be involved in new service developments and training.

There are strong links with our specialised services within S-CAMHS e.g. DBT Service, Eating Disorders Service. We also have strong links with the South Wales D Clin Psy Clinical Psychology training course.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Doctoral level training (or its equivalent for those trained before 1996) in clinicalor counselling psychology, including psychopathology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS
  • Knowledge of psychometrics, appropriate administration and limitations.
  • Post Practitioner Psychologist qualification training in at least one area relevant to the post.
  • Post Practitioner Psychologist qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
  • Additional specialist training
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies and assessment in specific difficult to treat groups or complex presentations (eg mental health and learning disability, substance misuse).
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health
Experience
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in-patient settings.
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment (post D Clin Psy qualification) incorporating psychometrics and cognitive assessment
  • Post Practitioner Psychologist qualification experience of assessing risk in young people with mental health problems.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course, presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Post Practitioner Psychologist qualification experience of working with children and young people and/or mental health.
  • Experience of working within S-CAMHS and/or experience of working with other agencies.
  • Experience of teaching, training and supervision.
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
