Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/Psychological Therapist
Manchester Early Detection & Intervention Team (EDIT) is the ARMS pathway for Manchester. It is a stand-alone therapy service which provides specialist assessment and psychological treatment for 14-35 year olds who have an At Risk Mental State.
Main duties of the job
In conjunction with the EDIT therapy colleagues, the post holders will conduct specialist CAARMS assessments (training will be provided) and manage an individual caseload of complex and varied therapy clients. The post holders will be responsible for providing evidence-based therapies, to formulate and treat psychological difficulties with our client group.

Person Specification
Education and training
- BABCP or BACP Accreditation (or equivalent, e.g. ACAT) as psychological therapist, or currently eligible and seeking accreditation
- Minimum 2 years post qualifying experience working as a psychological therapist
- Post Graduate diploma or above in psychological therapy
- A core professional qualification in one of the following: nursing, social work, psychotherapy/ counselling, clinical/counselling psychology, occupational therapy
- Additional post qualifying professional level qualifications or training in CFT, ACT, EMDR, CAT, DBT, CBT
Experience
- Experience of using evidence based psychological interventions with clients with mental health problems of varying severity and complexity.
- Experience of delivering psychological assessment with clients with mental health problems of varying severity and complexity
- Experience of managing own caseload and time
- Experience of working therapeutically in NHS, Education or third sector mental health service
- Experience of working therapeutically with young people
- Experience of working with diversity and inner city communities
- Experience of working with psychosis
- Experience of delivering therapy with neurodivergent clients
- Experience of working with clinical complexity
Knowledge and Skills
- Be skilled in the use of evidence based therapy assessment and psychological interventions.
- Have good knowledge of a range of psychological interventions and therapy modalities.
- Have skills and knowledge regarding the assessment and evaluation of risks and safeguarding.
- Be computer literate and use MS Word, Teams and clinical recording systems.
- Have commitment to continuing professional development and reflexive clinical practice.
- Capacity to work in situations demanding careful clinical judgement.
- Ability to work within a small team and foster good working relationships.
- Ability to work under pressure with complex cases with limited resources.
- Willingness to provide supervision to a range of trainees on placement with EDIT.
- Skills and experience of delivering clinical supervision.
- Experience of delivering therapy and assessments via MS Teams.
- Knowledge of issues impacting young people and their mental health.
Communication
- Ability to communicate complex and highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Can demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skill and sensitivity when communicating with a wide audience including clients, carers, health care colleagues and external agencies.
- Can demonstrate ability to contribute to clinical team meetings to ensure the effective sharing of clinical information.
- Can demonstrate punctual, factual written and electronic records are maintained in accordance with professional and Trust standards.
- Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times.
Other Requirements
- There is a requirement for some travel between GMMH sites across the Manchester footprint to provide assessments and therapy.
- There is a requirement to fulfil a full range of duties partially working from home, in an appropriate, confidential and professional space
