Job description

We are looking for a Clinical Associate Psychologist to work in Greenwich Older People Service.

The post holder will provide psychological assessments, formulations and deliver interventions to the communities we serve within Greenwich Older People Service. They will be based in Greenwich Memory Service, where their tasks will include undertaking neuropsychological (dementia) assessments and providing post-diagnostic therapeutic interventions for clients and their significant others individually and in groups.

There will also be opportunities to work into the Older People's Community Mental Health Team, providing psychological interventions for clients with complex mental health problems and other comorbidities, focusing on strengths and assets to help people with what matters most to them.

This work will be under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist who will retain clinical responsibility for clinical work carried out, provided that the clinical work is within the care plan specified.

The post holder will beworking independently on a day-to-day basis according to a plan agreed with supervisors and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.

The post holder will also assist in clinically related administration, development and conduct of audits and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

You will receive training and supervision to develop your neuropsychological assessment skills.

Main duties of the job

All clinical duties will be carried out under the supervision and direction of a qualified Clinical Psychologist. The post-holder has a responsibility to perform all tasks within the spirit and the policies of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. Under such direction and with these conditions the duties will include:

To undertake psychological assessments of clients applying psychological theory,based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.

To develop formulations and deliver therapeutic interventions involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client's problems as part of a care plan, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.

To assist in coordinating and running therapeutic and/or psycho educational groups or clinical projects.

To work with other staff to assess or support service users, including pre/post dementia diagnosis and contribute to multi-disciplinary discussions or care guidelines as agreed with the psychologist providing supervision.

To participate in dementia diagnostic clinics in the memory service, working alongside members of the specialist multi-disciplinary team.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Completed BPS [British Psychological Society] accredited CAP apprenticeship training programme
  • An approved qualification in psychology conferring eligibility for graduate basis for registration with the British Psychological Society, (Class 2.2 or higher)
  • Further continuing professional development relevant to work in mental health and/or psychological interventions
Experience
  • Paid experience relevant to working in mental health and or psychological service settings.
  • Experience of working with service users presenting with severe and enduring mental health difficulties or other experience in keeping with the specific CAP role: mental health care and/or working with carers and/or delivering therapeutic group interventions
  • Experience working with older adults in a memory assessment or mental health settings.
Knowledge/Skills
  • Appropriate level knowledge of psychological theory and research and of mental health presentations and approaches to treatment and intervention.
  • An awareness of NHS services and structures: staffing, roles and responsibilities, the role of hospitals, primary care and community care and of the role of psychological services within the NHS.
  • Appropriate level knowledge of research design and methodology, as required for service related research and audit.
  • Evidence of good oral and written communication skills based on fluency in the English language.
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to build rapport, communicate empathically and sensitively in a manner appropriate to the context and recipient.
  • Implement appropriate psychological assessment and interventions relevant to the client group.
  • Specialist understanding of how adverse experiences and environment impact on mental health and well-being
  • Skills in conceptualising, analysing and communicating complex information.
