Job description

Thisrole provides a high standard of administrative support to the Spinal SurgeryDepartment.

Toundertake a range of clerical and administrative duties which will includereceiving and checking documentation, reports and patient information,processing appropriately within departmental guidelines, entering informationonto the appropriate IT system and retrieving information as and whenrequired and arranging clinical appointments for patients among other duties.

Toprovide the Patient Services Co-ordinators, consultants, and clinical teamswith administrative support. To demonstrate excellent customer service topatients, relatives, carers, colleagues, and external organisations. To haveinitiative compatible to the role and always maintain confidentiality

Main duties of the job

DescribeWhat the candidate will do : Use the Patient AdministrationSystem as required.

Politely and efficiently receivetelephone enquiries from patients, carers, and external agencies in relationto hospital appointments, admissions and general enquires.

Support patient servicecoordinators, clinicians, and management in service delivery.

To ensure proper use of the officeequipment e.g. photocopier, printer, laminator etc.

To work as an effective team memberwithin the patient services team.

Principal duties and areas of responsibility

Clinical Correspondence & Support to Clinical Services

Typing/proofreading clinical correspondence relating to outpatient and inpatient attendances and other patient related correspondence on behalf of the consultant and clinical teams.

Use a range of IT skills to support the clinical work of the consultant e.g. use of databases and spread sheets to monitor waiting lists.

Support administrative process as deemed appropriate by the PSC.

To provide a full clerical support service to the Department including organising, sorting, and filing documents and papers; dealing with incoming and outgoing paper and electronic post as required.

Answer phone calls and deal with enquiries relating to patients and clinical work from a variety of sources, directly resolving where possible or transferring to appropriate personnel.

Liaise with GPs and other hospital staff to provide the best patient care.
