Job description

Swansea Bay University Health Board reserve the right to close this vacancy after 24 hours if a large number of suitable applications are received. Therefore we encourage early applications to ensure consideration for this post. Prior consideration will be given to staff currently awaiting redeployment and we reserve the right to withdraw this advert at any stage.

We're looking for more people to join our Hospital Cleaning Team at Neath Port Talbot Hospital to help us provide a spotless environment for patients.

Being a cleaner in our hospitals is a special job. Our cleaners are key members of ward teams, working together with clinical staff to support the wellbeing of patients while they are in hospital. A sparkling clean environment not only makes a hospital stay more pleasant – it also helps keep infections at bay. Cleaning in a hospital requires skills over and above a typical cleaning job, so we provide free specialist training to give you that extra knowledge.

We are offering part‑time permanent contracts with hours from 20 to 27.5 per week.

You will be required to undertake duties to ensure the upkeep of a clean and hygienic environment within the hospital and other Health Board premises, inclusive of in‑patient and non‑patient environments, under the direction of the Domestic Services Supervisor. On occasion, the post holder may be required to work at a unit or other sites across the Health Board.

Responsibilities include following departmental procedures and providing a responsive cleaning and decontamination service for patient and non‑patient areas throughout the healthcare premises. You will work across traditional staff group boundaries to provide an effective and timely service and maintain a safe and pleasant environment. All work will be undertaken in line with Health & Safety, COSHH and cleanliness policies and procedures, with a commitment to customer care, following on‑the‑job training.

Equality remains at the centre of the Health Board’s policy‑making, service delivery and employment practices. We value the diversity of our staff and welcome applications from people from protected groups under the Equality Act 2010, including age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/reassignment, race, religion, disability, pregnancy and maternity, and marriage and civil partnership. We are a Disability Confident Employer and welcome applications from persons with disabilities. A disability will not prejudice your application. If you are unable to submit your application in the requested format because of a disability, please contact the Recruitment Team, who will agree a more suitable way for you to apply. All disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria listed in the Person Specification will be invited to interview.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Applications may be submitted in Welsh. Applications submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.

We believe staff are our best asset and we want you to be happy and confident about starting your career here in Swansea Bay University Health Board. As one of the biggest healthcare groups in the UK we can offer a wealth of professional training and development opportunities in an innovative, forward‑thinking organisation. You might be a nurse or doctor, or specialise in a health science/therapy or offer skills in one of our support services – we have a job for you. There are also apprenticeships, work placements and volunteering roles available.

Swansea Bay University Health Board is committed to supporting its staff and processes to fully embrace bilingualism, thereby enhancing service users’ experience.
