Claims Analytics Engineer – Leeds – Hybrid (2 days a week in the office) – 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

We’re looking for a Claims Analytics Engineer to join our Motor Claims team – someone who thrives on turning complex data into actionable insight. Your role will be pivotal in developing and maintaining our analytical data infrastructure and insight delivery, supporting our team of analysts evaluate ~£2 billion of claims expenditure, the associated operational performance, and forecasting future trends, and delivering insight that drives smarter decisions, improves operational efficiency, and enhances profitability.

This role is about more than just reporting. It’s about enabling storytelling with data, using it to develop understanding, challenge assumptions, uncover opportunities and inform strategy and ultimately customer outcomes and enhance profitability.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Develop, enhance, document and maintain processes that cleanse and transform large volumes of complex data for use in analytical workflows following best practice and development standards.
  • Design and build data products that empower analysts and business teams to efficiently explore and understand business performance.
  • Analyse existing code and processes and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Perform unit testing, system testing and UAT.
  • Provide technical support to analysts within the team and other areas of DLG.
  • Liaise and collaborate with colleagues to understand and translate requirements into data products.
  • Partner with stakeholders to design, develop and implement fit-for-purpose data products and KPIs that support strategic projects.
  • Use your experience to help us be innovative, dynamic and continuously curious.
What We’re Looking For

You’ll be a self-starter who is curious about data and has an aptitude for data engineering, is highly detail‑oriented and has an appetite for problem solving. Other skills:

  • Technical expertise in data cleansing, transformation and manipulation, with experience in delivering reliable, robust data products.
  • The ability to gain an understanding of internal and external data sources, to gather and understand requirements and to use that knowledge and understanding to build datasets, data models and reports.
  • Excellent level of knowledge and experience of SQL.
  • The ability to investigate problems and make recommendations for business improvements.
  • An innovative mindset and the ability to challenge ways of working to generate new insights and ways of doing things.
  • Programming experience in any language (e.g. SAS, Python, R).
  • A good understanding of data architecture and management together with coding and development methodologies.
  • Exposure to reporting services and visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, Qlik Sense, Alteryx or Power BI).
  • An understanding of cloud‑based platforms is beneficial (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • A proficient user of Microsoft applications.
