Our client is a well‑established regional law firm seeking a Children Law Solicitor to join the team in Sheffield.

The role & impact

The solicitor will advise and represent clients across private and public Children Law including matters involving domestic abuse covering both privately funded and legal aid work.

The role will work closely with colleagues in the Children Department, contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment and may include supervision responsibilities depending on experience.

The position is full time and based in Sheffield.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise and represent clients in private and public Children Law matters including domestic abuse across privately funded and legal aid cases.
  • Conduct advocacy in and out of court, preparing cases thoroughly and managing hearings effectively.
  • Manage a personal caseload with strong file diary and time management.
  • Use the Proclaim case management system to maintain accurate compliant records and workflows.
  • Support colleagues within the Children Department and contribute to knowledge sharing.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships through networking and referral development.
  • Where appropriate supervise team members including file reviews 1‑2‑1s and appraisals potentially across more than one office.

Skills & Experience
Essential
  • At least 3 years experience within a Children Law department.
  • Children Panel Accreditation.
  • Strong advocacy skills and first‑rate written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Legal Aid regulations and procedures.
  • Proven organisational skills for effective file and diary management.
  • IT proficiency including Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • People management or supervision experience.
  • Ability to use initiative and work to tight deadlines.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
  • Experience with the Proclaim Case Management System.
  • Membership of Resolution ideally with a domestic abuse specialism.
