A healthcare trust in the UK seeks a speciality doctor for their Cellular Pathology Department based at the Royal Derby Hospital. The role primarily focuses on specimen dissection, especially breast specimens, while also participating in diagnostic services and team collaboration. Successful candidates will benefit from development opportunities and have essential responsibilities in quality assurance and clinical governance activities.
We are looking for a speciality doctor to join our existing team of medical and biomedical scientists. The primary aim of this role is to aid in specimen dissection, with a particular focus on breast specimens, though a wide range of specimens will be addressed.
The Cellular Pathology Department is based at the Royal Derby Hospital, a busy UKAS‑accredited facility with a growing workload across most specialties, excluding medical renal biopsies, neuropathology and paediatric/neonatal pathology.
The appointee will work closely with Biomedical Scientists and administrative staff to deliver an efficient Cellular Pathology service. Responsibilities include use and security of Trust assets, supporting business planning, introducing new methods, and preparing policies and SOPs. Regular departmental meetings and clinical governance activities, including audit and training, will be part of the role.
As part of revalidation, the post holder will comply with the Trust’s annual appraisal processes, gather feedback, engage in quality assurance and maintain CPD in line with GMC Good Medical Practice.
Research is not required for the post, but facilities are available and the hospital hosts several active research groups. Clinicians are expected to engage in research, development and innovation, with support from the Trust’s R&I Department and ethical approvals as required.
