Job summary

Education Authority in Northern Ireland is seeking a Cook to assist in preparing and cooking meals in school kitchens. You will work under the Senior Catering Supervisor, contribute to menu preparation, portion control, and hygiene standards.

Qualifications

• Essential criteria: holds NVQ2 in food prep and cooking or City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 or equivalent or higher, OR two years’ experience in catering.
• Knowledge of HACCP.
• Willingness to undertake job related training.
• Ability to communicate and engage effectively with others as part of a team and with customers.
• Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
• Effective organisational and planning skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Motivation towards providing excellent food and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Skilled cooking activities for a full range of meals and assist with menu preparation and portion control.
• Assist with record keeping, hygiene controls, and supervision of other staff.
• Undertake operational control of service points including transported meals.
• Handle stock-taking, stores/fridges, deliveries, and general kitchen management in absence of supervisor.
• General kitchen duties including cleaning, setting up, and clearing away equipment.
• Promote the service to parents, principals and customers to increase uptake.
• Ensure premises security and carry out delegated service duties.
