Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Cook to join the school catering team. The role reports to the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor and is responsible for assisting in all activities related to meal preparation and cooking, ensuring a hygienic and efficient service for students and staff.

You will participate in menu planning, portion control, and coordination with the Catering Manager through the Area Catering Manager, contributing to customer satisfaction and service promotion

Qualifications

• Essential criteria include holding NVQ Level 2 in food preparation and cooking or City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 or equivalent or higher relevant qualification.
• Two years’ experience of food preparation and cooking within a catering establishment.
• Knowledge of HACCP.

Responsibilities

• Assist in skilled cooking activities for the full range of meals, including menus, portion control, and special dietary needs.
• Record keeping and hygiene/health and safety in the kitchen, including temperature checks.
• Direction and supervision of other staff; assist with service points and transport meals.
• Administrative duties such as meal planning, stock-taking, stores organization, and deliveries; general kitchen management.
• Training of staff and cash handling where appropriate; assist in promotion of service to parents, principals, and customers.
