Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Catering Assistant to support school kitchen operations. You will help prepare meals, manage portioning, and assist with dietary requirements while maintaining high hygiene and safety standards.

Under the guidance of the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor, you will share staff supervision, handle stock control, assist with meal planning, and support service points. The role involves promoting the service to pupils and staff.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in food prep and cooking or equivalent.
• Two years' experience in food preparation and cooking in a catering setting.
• HACCP knowledge and compliance ability.
• Willingness to undertake job-related training.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of meals and menus; support portion control and special dietary meals.
• Share supervision of other staff and support hygiene, temperature recording, and safety.
• Carry out stock checks, store/fridge organisation and deliveries receipt.
• Assist planning of meals and general kitchen management in absence of supervisor.
• Support service points including transported meals and cash handling where appropriate.
• Promote the service to parents, principals and customers to increase uptake.
