Catering Clerk

The closing date is 29 December 2025

We require proactive and hardworking staff to work as part of a team within the Food Production department at our Central Production Unit at City Campus and the Receipt and Distribution Unit at the QMC Campus. The Catering Clerk role is key to ensuring all meal and food & beverage for our patients are issued and recorded accurately using our electronic ordering system.

The post holder will be responsible for producing, printing and recording catering supplies requested by the wards using an ICT software package, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring the service of all types of food and beverage meets the department’s standards. All duties will be carried out in accordance with the Trust's health and safety policy and current financial instructions.

Main duties of the job
  • Use the catering software to monitor and record all catering food issued to the wards.
  • Print patient meal order documents twice a day and issue them to the relevant teams and areas.
  • Receive orders of additional food from wards, record and relay the information to the Production team.
  • Accurately record all food and drinks items issued to the Patients Meals Service.
  • Input all food items, drink items and stock transfers issued to the Patients Meals Service into the catering software and other records.
  • Produce reports using the catering software for the Catering team and management when required.
  • Keep the catering software up to date with menu changes, products and costs.
  • Use other software systems to report and record information.
  • Carry out general administration duties for Food Production including taking orders over the phone, taking and passing on messages, managing stationery, printing documents & labels and photocopying.
  • Answer the telephone in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Communicate with wards and departments notifying them of any changes to the service.
  • Control the efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Report any premises and equipment faults to the line manager/supervisor.
  • Maintain a safe working environment in the office area.
  • Maintain confidentiality when privy to sensitive information in the office.

Training & Qualifications
  • English language & Mathematics GCSE (Grade C or above) or equivalent
