Job summary

A social housing contractor is seeking a Carpenter Multi-Trader to handle repairs and maintenance across properties in North London and Hertfordshire/Essex. You will work independently as well as with other trades, using your carpentry and multi-trade skills to complete various tasks. A company van and fuel are supplied for this role which offers between £22 and £25 per hour with a possibility of permanent placement.

Job description
Carpenter Multi-Trader

£22 – £25 per hour

Working for a social housing contractor. Van and fuel supplied. Long‑term temp role with potential to go temp‑to‑perm. Covers North London and the Hertfordshire/Essex border.

Key Responsibilities
  • Day‑to‑day occupied repairs and maintenance of social housing properties for a large Local Authority and a medium‑sized Housing Association.
  • Carpentry, plumbing, tiling (mainly splash backs), painting and decorating, patch plastering and general property maintenance.
  • Work on a job‑to‑job basis over a planned route, meeting contract SLA delivery.
  • Collaborate with schedulers and planners, and work both independently or in a team with other trades.
  • Complete daily work sheets documenting work undertaken and materials used.
  • Advise supervisor on any issues requiring additional support.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and support residents with reactive repairs and maintenance.
Qualifications
  • Strong carpentry background with the ability to carry out multi‑trade work.
  • NVQ Level 2 or NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry and Joinery, or “time‑served” qualification.
  • Own 110 V power tools and hand tools.
  • Basic IT skills – use of a PDA and basic SOR codes knowledge desirable.
  • Experience of working in occupied residential properties, ideally in social housing.
  • Extensive knowledge of maintenance repair works and ability to manage booked repairs in a dispersed region.
  • Ability to adhere to company health and safety guidelines.
  • Strong customer service, tidy work ethic, problem‑solving, attention to detail, accountability, initiative, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Full UK driving licence (company vehicle supplied).
Hours and Pay

£22 – £25 per hour. Working hours 8 am – 5 pm. Company van supplied with fuel or fuel card.
