Carpenter Multi-Trade

Are you a Carpenter with Multi-Trade experience who wants to make a difference in your local community?

If you hold an NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry (or equivalent qualification), have UPVC experience, and want to use your skills to improve the quality of homes for residents, this could be the role for you.

What we are looking for :

We are seeking a skilled Carpenter-Multi to join our Social Housing Repairs & Maintenance team, delivering high-quality installation, maintenance, and repair work across tenanted properties.

This role is about more than just carpentry

Its about helping residents feel safe, secure, and comfortable in their homes. Youll focus on achieving a first-time fix wherever possible, ensuring minimal disruption to tenants and building trust through excellent service.

Operating within Managed Services, youll handle carpentry (including UPVC work), general repairs, maintenance, and refurbishment in tenanted, commercial, and void properties, focusing on achieving a first-time fix for all jobs.

Youll ensure exceptional service and client satisfaction within the borough.

Working Arrangements :

Working pattern : 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Location : Barking & Dagenham - travel within the borough required as part of the role

Vehicle provided

Other : A DBS check will be required for this role.

Some degree of flexibilty required as call out work may be available.

Duties :
  • Carry out carpentry and multi-trade repairs in occupied social housing properties, and communal areas.
  • Respond promptly to emergency repairs, ensuring tenants feel supported and safe.
  • Install and repair fixtures such as doors, windows, staircases, kitchen units, and bathroom fittings.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify issues early and prevent disruption to residents.
  • Communicate clearly with tenants about the nature of the work, expected timelines, and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of all jobs, including before-and-after photos, to support transparency and accountability.
  • Collaborate with other trades to deliver seamless repairs and refurbishments.
  • Ensure all work complies with housing regulations, health and safety standards, and safeguarding requirements.
  • Install fixtures and fittings according to design guidelines.
  • Effectively liaise with a range of stakeholders including residents, trades colleagues, planning teams, and supervisors.
  • Use a PDA to update the status of work on the jobs management system.
  • Perform general carpentry and joinery tasks, including repairs and refurbishments.
  • Operate power tools effectively and safely.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
  • Effectively maintain vehicle and van stock.
Qualifications & Experience :
  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Carpentry, plus UPVC skills.
  • Multi-trade experience (e.g., plumbing, joinery, general repairs).
  • Previous experience in social housing repairs strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work respectfully with tenants and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Full clean UK driving licence required.
  • Excellent understanding of Health and Safety regulations, legislation and procedures.
  • Awareness or Awaab's Law principles, or willingness to learn.
  • Proven ability to deliver high quality construction projects and efficient output to meet client expectations.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Personal resilience and the ability to work effectively under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Full clean UK driving licence required.
