Job description

Working hours: 10 hours per week.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team at Brighouse Corps. You will be responsible for the care, maintenance and cleaning of the buildings and furnishings of the corps to ensure that they are in good working and set up for event and community programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend to the cleanliness, sanitation, lighting, heating and ventilation of buildings to ensure that the environment is maintained to the required standards.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of the buildings and furnishings, undertaking repair work appropriate to your level of skill and knowledge.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate records in compliance with all health and safety requirements and other relevant policies and compliance requirements.
  • Attend to seating and platform arrangements in consultation with the Corps Officer to ensure that the Hall is laid out as required.
  • Be responsible for unlocking and locking the premises when required and maintain a list of key-holders to ensure the security of the buildings.
  • Work with the Corps Officer in obtaining quotations for agreed work, following procurement guidelines to ensure that buildings are maintained to the required standard.
  • Fulfil duties in alignment with all relevant Salvation Army and statutory policies and procedures including health and safety, data protection, safeguarding, equality and diversity.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Previous experience of working successfully as a caretaker/cleaner/handyperson.
  • Knowledge and experience of basic DIY/maintenance jobs.
  • The ability to follow instructions and perform tasks, in a timely manner and to the expected quality standards, with regular supervision from your manager.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to convey information to, and work effectively with customers/colleagues.
  • A good level of English – both spoken and written – and numeracy required to enable you to fulfil all duties of the role.
  • A basic awareness of health and safety regulations.
  • The ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including the ability to move furniture and equipment as required.
  • Basic level experience of working with software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and email programmes.
