Job description

You will proofread question paper materials in all subjects and at all qualification levels to make sure they are free from errors and follow the agreed style.

Responsibilities
  • Proofreading question paper materials to make sure they are free of grammar, spelling, typographical, layout and formatting errors.
  • Contributing to the continual improvement of team processes and procedures.
  • Helping keep our style guide up to date.
  • Helping reply to queries on style from our internal customers.
  • A highly accurate and experienced proofreader. The role is not suitable for entry‑level proofreaders and it is not available as a freelance position.
  • Used to working with a large and complex style guide and detailed checklists.
  • Ideally familiar with exam board materials.
  • Used to spending the majority of your time proofreading. The role does not include editing materials.
  • A quick learner.

Qualifications and Experience
  • An excellent understanding of English grammar and plain English.
  • Grade A/B GCSE English language and education to degree level, or equivalent.
  • Evidence of proofreading training either via a recognised qualification or by being trained on the job by an experienced proofreader.
  • A methodical and meticulous way of working.
  • The ability to sustain accuracy and attention to detail when proofreading similar formats repeatedly.
  • Experience of working to agreed processes and procedures, and with confidential material.
  • Excellent communication skills verbally and in writing.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • A commitment to continual improvement.
