Job description
Care Support Worker - Emergency Department

We provide health and social care services to our people in their own homes or in their local community. We also run Torbay Hospital (providing acute hospital services) as well as five community hospitals, stretching from Dawlish to Brixham.

We support around 500,000 face-to-face contacts with patients in their homes and communities each year and see over 78,000 people in our A&E department annually. We serve a resident population of approximately 286,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season.

Main duties of the job
  • Working within a busy Emergency Department
  • Assessing and monitoring patient conditions
  • Checking symptoms and vital signs and arranging diagnostic tests

Job responsibilities

Working in a fast paced Emergency Department your duties will include.

  • Monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, and weight.
  • Assisting in the delivery of patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse
  • Ensuring that the patient is the prime focus when making decisions about their care and wellbeing.
  • Assisting patients with compassion when undertaking normal activities of daily living whilst ensuring that privacy, dignity, and human rights are respected.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • All Care support worker roles will be required to provide evidence of completing the Care Certificate or a relevant qualification. Evidence accepted includes:-
  • Student Nurse with at least 12 weeks clinical placements.
  • Care Certificate from an NHS Organisation
  • QCF Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Support Services issued after 2011
  • QCF Level 2 OR above Diploma in Health & Social Care or Clinical Healthcare Support issued after 2011
  • QCF Level 3 OR above Diploma in Healthcare Support or Maternity & Paediatric Support issued after 2011 (For Paediatric & Maternity roles only)
  • Degree /Diploma in Nursing and currently do not have an NMC Registration.
  • Currently studying General/Adult Nursing (Student Nurse) and completed a minimum of 12 Weeks clinical placements.
  • Minimum of 6 months Acute HCSW UK (Private, NHS or Armed Forces) hospital or hospice experience within the last 2 years
