Position Overview
Campus and Building Services Worker, part time, 3rd Shift, Monday–Friday 8:00pm–12:00am. This is a custodial position focused on building maintenance and cleaning. The role may occasionally involve set-up and tear-down of special events, classroom setup, and event support. The position may supervise a team of work-study students.
Responsibilities
- Identify and perform daily, periodic, and project cleaning/basic maintenance tasks in assigned areas to ensure the highest level of cleanliness.
- Perform set-up/tear-down of classes, special events, and conference accommodations as needed, including moving furniture and equipment; collaborate with other shifts/departments when applicable.
- As a work-study supervisor (when designated): train student employees, monitor and inspect work, process time sheets, and evaluate student employees.
- Maintain equipment, submit repair requests, and communicate concerns related to equipment or facilities immediately.
- Provide building security by locking/unlocking doors and assisting evacuees during fire alarms; maintain entries in the Event Description Book as requested.
- Move furniture and equipment as needed and collaborate with other shifts/departments as required.
- Respond to client questions and concerns regarding the building and ensure a high level of customer service.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
Qualifications
- Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience Required: None.
- Experience/Skills Preferred: Ability to read and follow directions; ability to clean and maintain areas as directed; ability to communicate effectively; ability to demonstrate respect for others and act as a role model to students; basic computer proficiency including campus email and software used for the job.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs, stoop, kneel, and stretch as required by cleaning/event setup tasks.
- Position is scheduled in shifts that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays with occasional shift variations for coverage.
- This position is essential; employees must report to work as scheduled during emergencies or delays.
- In the event of a snowstorm, may be responsible for off-hours snow removal.
- Driving Requirements: Operate Messiah University owned/leased vehicle; must possess a current driver’s license and comply with the University Fleet Vehicle Use Policy.
Reporting and Supervision
- Supervises: Student employees (as applicable) within the work-study program; no other staff supervision listed.
