The role emphasizes planning clinical care within a therapeutic environment, requiring a qualified nurse with a passion for adolescent mental health. Opportunities for professional development and a supportive work culture are available. Flexible working arrangements are also offered.
Eligible for a recruitment/retention payment of £3,000 for new starters who are external to the trust. This is payable in 2 instalments over a 24 month period. Terms and conditions apply in relation to repayment should you leave within a 24 month period.
Are you looking to work in a team that allows you to feel empowered and proud to be a nurse, in an environment that will allow you to develop and flourish as a practitioner? The South London and Maudsley CAMHS Inpatient Units might just be what you're looking for. We are passionate about delivering first‑class patient‑centred, safe and effective care across our Adolescent Inpatient Units, general and PICU. Patients are at the heart of everything we do.
We are looking to recruit outstanding people who will go the extra mile to support our patients and colleagues. With every new employee we hope to find future leaders and support our staff by providing opportunities to develop—whatever stage of your career you're at; there's always a place for you at SLaM. Existing CAMHS experience is not essential, as we provide excellent learning and development, including leadership and managerial skills alongside clinical interventions.
As a clinical charge nurse you will play a role in planning clinical care, be part of the nursing team, and employ your pre‑existing clinical skills to help provide a therapeutic and safe environment. You will develop a calm and contained demeanour, assess risk formally and informally, and balance this effectively with acting in the least restrictive way, fostering a safe yet therapeutic service. You will have a solid working knowledge of relevant legal frameworks (MHA 1983, Capacity Act 2005, and Children Act 1989).
You must be a qualified RMN, LD or Children’s Nurse with the desire to work in an inpatient mental health setting. It is essential to understand the challenges that nurses face caring for young people with mental health difficulties, and to demonstrate resilience and empathy. Most important is a commitment and passion for listening to and supporting young people in a variety of creative ways.
Bethlem Adolescent Unit and CAMHS PICU are based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital. Tyson East 2 will be based in the new Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People once opened (TBC); currently the ward is based on the Bethlem Royal site. PICU cares for some of the most unwell and vulnerable young people requiring secure mental health services in a compassionate, safe, and timely manner.
