CAD Engineer / BIM Technician - Energy & Infrastructure
Working for an industry leader in the Energy, waste and recycling sectors this major company UK operations turnover in excess of £3bn manages and owns numerous Waste & recycling centres including 12 energy from waste power plants across the UK.
Working in the company\'s major Cannock office where the Engineering and Design Division are based for Energy & Infrastructure. Projects include district heating, Energy from waste power plants, Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems & renewable energy systems.
Initial 6 month contract - potential for extensions and permanent role.
Qualifications
- A relevant engineering qualification (Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent).
- Proven 2D and 3D CAD experience, ideally with AutoCAD, Revit, and other industry software.
- Experience producing P&IDs, layouts, and plant/building energy services models.
- Knowledge and practical use of LiDAR data within CAD models, including operating LiDAR equipment (e.g. Trimble X9 Scanner).
- Familiarity with BIM processes and ISO 19650 standards.
- Experience working with Common Data Environments (CDEs) such as Viewpoint, BIM360/ACC, or ProjectWise.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise workloads, and adapt quickly to new technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design & Drafting
- Develop conceptual designs into detailed CAD drawings, including general arrangements, planning drawings, 3D layouts, setting-out drawings, SLDs, PFDs, and P&IDs.
- Create high-quality 2D/3D layouts and renders for project deliverables and bid documentation.
- Produce BOM listings to support specification, calculation, and component selection.
- BIM & Data Management
- Build, update, and manage BIM models in line with project requirements and industry standards.
- Work within a Common Data Environment (CDE) to maintain version control, ensure data accuracy, and support collaborative workflows.
- Project Support
- Provide consultative design support and assist during installation and construction phases.
- Prepare project-specific installation specifications to obtain competitive tenders from local M&E contractors.
- Import, process, and integrate LiDAR scans into CAD models for enhanced accuracy.
- Liaise closely with the Electrical Design Engineer to align project requirements and ensure seamless design integration.
- Support conceptual design and tender preparation, ensuring documentation is delivered to quality and time standards.
