Overview

The AtkinsRéalis Nuclear PNB EC&I Team in the UK is currently seeking a motivated and technically proficient Intermediate Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to support the delivery of high-quality C&I design solutions across a range of engineering projects. This role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful integration of instrumentation and control systems within complex process environments.

Your role
Design Development
  • Support process engineering teams in the development and review of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Assist in the selection and specification of field instrumentation, including flow, pressure, temperature, and level measurement devices.
  • Develop and maintain instrument data sheets, loop diagrams, and control philosophies.
Control Systems Engineering
  • Contribute to the design and documentation ofPLC,DCS, andSCADAsystem architectures, including I/O allocation, communication protocols, and network topologies.
  • Prepare detailedcontrol system specifications, covering both hardware and software requirements for PLCs, DCS, and SCADA platforms.
  • Support the development ofcontrol room layoutsandHMI/SCADA interface designs, ensuring ergonomic, operational, and cybersecurity best practices are followed.
Safety and Compliance
  • Participate in HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies, SIL assessments, and other safety-related reviews.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.
Project Documentation
  • Compile and maintain instrument indexes, I/O lists, and signal schedules.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation for procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
Collaboration and Support
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and process engineers to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning phases of projects.
About you
  • Bachelor’s degree inElectrical Engineering,Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience inC&I designwithin the engineering, energy, or industrial sectors.
  • Familiarity with PLC/DCS platforms such as Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider, ABB, or equivalent systems.
  • Experience withAutoCAD, or similar design tools is desirable.
  • Solid understanding of relevant engineering standards, includingIEC,BS, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Proactive approach to learning and professional development.
Additional experience that would be an advantage
  • Experience working innuclear,renewables, or otherprocess-intensive industries.
  • Knowledge offunctional safetyandSIL lifecycle management.
