Job description

Ontic, a leading licensor and manufacturer of complex engineering parts for the global aerospace and defence industries, are recruiting for a Buyer to join our growing team. This role will be based at our dedicated Tewkesbury MRO site.

The Role:

We are looking for a motivated professional to deliver Supply Chain excellence at our dedicated Ontic MRO facility in Tewksbury. This role is critical in ensuring the stability and continuity of material supply to meet customer requirements.

You will lead specific supplier relationships, proactively assess supply risks, and implement effective countermeasures to mitigate or eliminate potential disruptions. By working collaboratively across teams and with suppliers, you will support operational efficiency and business performance.

Main Responsibilities

Compliance & Governance

  • Work with the Supply Chain team to ensure all policies and procedures are followed within the IMS.
  • Ensure the authority matrix is adhered to, with all investments formally presented and signed off.
Supplier & Order Management
  • Build strong relationships with the OE supply network to enable effective cross-functional working and decision-making.
  • Manage the RFQ process and negotiations, converting purchase demand into purchase orders after evaluating vendor capability, pricing, delivery requirements, and performance.
  • Oversee allocated suppliers' order books to ensure on-time delivery of purchased parts, meeting business and customer requirements.
  • Keep the ERP system updated with supplier delivery commitments to ensure accurate planning.
  • Maintain purchasing master data within the ERP system.
Operational Support & Efficiency
  • Work closely with Operations and Planning to implement best practices and drive business efficiency.
  • Represent Supply Chain in internal meetings, highlighting critical business needs and priorities.
  • Undertake supplier site visits as required to support relationship management and resolve supply issues.
  • Collaborate with the accounts payable team to resolve invoice queries in a timely manner.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, customers, licensors, suppliers, and stakeholders, upholding Ontic's values at all times.
  • Ensure reports and metrics are accurate, up to date, and clearly communicated.
  • Comply with employment legislation, including health and safety, data protection, equal opportunities, and local policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to statutory requirements, regulations, and company policies.
  • Undertake any additional duties commensurate with the role as required
About You:

To be successful in this role you'll need to have experience working within a buying role previously, ideally within a manufacturing, aerospace or engineering sectors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • A degree or equivalent in a technical subject or significant industry experience with good educational standards at lower-level qualifications.
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain and proven experience of working with suppliers.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills of technical issues.
  • Capable of being a self-starter with a minimal amount of direct supervision
  • Effective and accurate use of MS Office applications and ERP systems.
  • Able to produce clear, concise and accurate written and verbal communications (in English) at all levels.
  • Ability to empower and inspire teams to deliver excellence.
  • Confident in a fast-moving and changing environment with the skill to prioritise tasks as the project or business demands.
  • Willing to occasionally work outside core hours and be flexible to react to the business priorities.
