The value you’ll add

The role is a key part of the UK Finance team of HSBC Innovation Banking, reporting to the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) and involves supporting the CFO and the rest of the Finance Leadership Team (FLT) in the development of the strategy and the smooth day‑to‑day running of the finance function. The role will encompass both strategy and delivery across a broad range of responsibilities including budget management, people strategy and communications, process enhancements, rolling out new ways of working and leading on key third‑party relationships for the Finance team. The role will also support the CFO in their role as a Director and member of the Board of HSBC Innovation Banking Ltd. It focuses on functional leadership, planning, coordination and delivery across the Finance organisation, requiring someone comfortable driving operational priorities, managing information flows and supporting strategic initiatives.

What you can expect to be doing
  • Provide support to CFO and rest of the FLT.
  • Lead on Finance budget and FTE management.
  • In collaboration with the FLT, lead the development and mobilisation of effective ways of working, including the vision, goals, scope and outcomes, and execute the training and communication plan.
  • Develop, embed and maintain the function’s communication plan to provide information on performance, initiatives and risk profile. Include devising and facilitating employee engagement opportunities, such as Finance Town Halls and regular calls, and working with the FLT to develop action plans based on employee survey feedback.
  • Responsible for producing regular MI pack for the FLT covering budget, FTE, employee engagement plans and highlighting outstanding actions.
  • Support the CFO with preparations of materials for committees, internal meetings and external events.
  • Maintain documentation demonstrating the CFO’s reasonable steps taken to discharge their responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with Business Performance Managers across HINV and the wider Group to develop, share and deliver good practice.
  • Support the CFO as needed more broadly, for example in relation to specific projects, briefings or operational matters.
Requirements
  • Sound understanding of the CFO’s responsibilities, the wider Finance team and how these connect with the wider HINV, HBUK and Group, including clients, products, competitive landscape, regulatory environment and digitalisation/innovation trends with a focus on the Innovation economy.
  • Self‑starter with the ability to use the understanding of the CFO’s priorities to identify what is needed and to prioritise accordingly, acting with day‑to‑day autonomy while keeping the CFO/leadership team up to date.
  • Ability to grasp complex business problems and design solutions.
  • Analytical skills to derive insight from imperfect data and information.
  • Ability to influence a large and diverse set of stakeholders, including at an executive committee level.
  • Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills, with experience of dealing with Board level senior management.
  • Good understanding of financial and budgetary management and prioritisation of conflicting priorities.
