JPC-83 - Building Surveyor - London

Salary - £55-65k

Duties

Work within the London office as part of the Building Surveying team, reporting to an Associate Director. The role will involve a balanced workload across Building Surveying, Project Monitoring, Contract Administration, and experience working on higher-risk buildings.

Skills, Knowledge, Understanding and Learning
  • Working toward a professional qualification MRICS or equivalent
  • Minimum 3-5 years post-qualification experience.
  • Strong understanding of Building Regulations, Fire Safety legislation and guidance from the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Experience working under Pre-Construction Services Agreements (PCSA) to deliver fiss fire remediation work.
  • Solid contract administration experience on traditional repairs and maintenance projects.
  • Proficient in producing specifications and schedules of work using NBS, under JCT IFC or similar contracts.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability and experience of running remediation and new build residential projects using JCT, D&B and JCT PCSA Projects.
  • Mentor Junior Surveyors who will be assisting with projects.
  • Valid UK driving licence and access to own car for business use.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Building Safety and Surveying
  • Undertake contract administration duties.
  • Work alongside internal teams and external stakeholders to compile and deliver reports.
  • Undertake detailed building inspections and defect analysis across various sectors including residential, education, and healthcare.
Pre-Contract Procedures and PCSA Work
  • Lead and support the scoping and coordination of pre-contract investigations, surveys and due diligence.
  • Work with clients to produce Project Execution Plans and administer pre-construction activity.
  • Tendering under single and 2-stage procurement methods.
  • Engage in the drafting, reviewing and amending of PCSA and JCT contract documentation.
Specification Writing and Technical Delivery
  • Prepare detailed repair and maintenance specifications.
  • Produce schedules of work and associated documentation under JCT IFC or similar forms.
  • Support the design and technical team in delivering quality documents to support contract delivery.
Contract Administration and Project Monitoring
  • Administer fire remediation and general refurbishment works through to completion.
  • Attend and minute site meetings, carry out regular inspections, and issue instructions, certificates, and notices.
  • Assess valuations and advise clients on cash flow forecasts and contractor applications.
  • Coordinate project teams to ensure effective, timely delivery across multiple stakeholders.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Liaise effectively with colleagues in both the London and Sevenoaks offices.
  • Represent the Client professionally with clients, contractors, residents, and other consultants.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and mentoring of more junior staff when appropriate.
