Building Maintenance Operative / Factory Handyman

Bedford area

Monday – Friday day shift

£34 000

My client is a leading food manufacturing business based in the Bedford area. They are going from strength to strength and as a result are going through a huge recruitment drive.

They are looking for a Factory Handyman / Building Services Operative / Building Maintenance Engineer to join their engineering team.

The main aim for the role is to maintain and improve the fabrication of buildings internally and externally to the required standards within a food manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities will include –

  • Assist in with building maintenance and repairs in accordance with the GMP audits
  • Painting and decorating
  • Carpentry
  • Plumbing
  • Building proofing i.e. filling in holes with concrete or plaster, sealing joints
  • Electrical i.e. changing light tubes, plugs etc.
  • Services i.e. unblocking drains, keeping drains clear
  • Computer literate so reports and job logging can be done
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety at work i.e. COSHH, Risk Assessments

The ideal candidate will have a background in Building services, in a maintenance / engineering / operative capacity. Experience in the food or manufacturing sector would be beneficial, as would City & Guilds (or equivalent) in building maintenance or construction.
