An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, focused and enthusiastic HCPC registered BMS to join the team at our Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory at William Harvey Hospital.
This role is for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Haematology and Blood Transfusion, applications will be accepted from band 5 and trainee BMS's if there are insufficient applicants for specialist level (pay and AFC band will be according to experience). You will be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary blood science team that provides a 24/7 specialist and acute services to the patients of East Kent.
We are UKAS ISO 15189; 2022 accredited as are all Pathology disciplines within the organisation. Our services offer a range of diagnostic tests and the department has a strong training ethos linked to career development and progression.
The successful candidate will have a designated base at William Harvey Hospital but should the needs of the service dictate as an employee of EKHUFT you could be asked to work at an alternative site.
The primary role will be the day to day processing of samples in Haematology, Blood Transfusion and blood film review in Morphology. The successful candidate will be expected to work along side Senior Biomedical Scientists to deliver training to junior staff and contribute to the Quality Management System embedded within the laboratory to achieve UKAS compliance at all times.
After a period of training and competency assessment the successful candidate will be expected to participate in our multi-disciplinary (blood transfusion and haematology ) continuous processing pattern (CPP), 24-7 365, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. This system is fully WTD compliant. Though not essential, previous morphology experience would be an advantage.
The post holder will be expected to complete the IBMS Specialist Diploma in the relevant field in order to progress to band 6; once a minimum of 12 months has passed, at least 50% of the portfolio is complete and the post holder is already participating on or, is ready to participate on CPP. This requires the post holder to have current membership with the IBMS which is not funded by the Trust.
