Job summary

A regional education council in Winchester is seeking a Bikeability Cycle Training Instructor to deliver high-quality cycle training to children. The Role:

Joining Hampshire Outdoors’ Bikeability Cycle Training Team as an Instructor, you’ll use your passion for cycling to help inspire and equip children with the skills and confidence to cycle safely on the road. You’ll play a vital role in promoting active travel, independence, and wellbeing for young people across Hampshire. If you don’t yet hold the required Bikeability award, we’ll provide fully accredited training before you start delivering courses.

Our team operates across the Hampshire County Council area, but your role will primarily focus on the Central and North regions, including Winchester, Basingstoke, Andover, Farnborough, and surrounding areas, with Winchester as your office base. You may on occasions be required to support other regions as needed.

What you’ll do:
  • Deliver high-quality Bikeability cycle training to primary school pupils, groups, and individuals.
  • Work as part of a team to plan, risk assess, and deliver safe and engaging sessions.
  • Maintain accurate records, monitor outcomes, and support quality improvement.
  • Drive the Bikeability van (training provided) and manage equipment for sessions.
  • Promote cycling as a healthy, sustainable mode of transport and remove barriers to participation.
What we’re looking for:
  • An experienced, confident, and enthusiastic cyclist with your own bike and helmet.
  • A passion for outdoor activities, comfortable working outdoors in all weather and physically active environments.
  • Strong knowledge of safety and risk management, and an understanding of what makes experiences truly valuable and high quality.
  • Ability to travel across Hampshire and transport equipment to schools.
  • Excellent communication skills and basic IT literacy.
  • Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training (or willingness to train).

Travel Requirements:

You will be required to visit other locations within Hampshire and therefore need to have the ability to travel, as necessary.
