Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and experienced Specialist Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) Support Assistant to join a supportive educational setting in Bedford, MK42 . This is an exciting opportunity to make a profound difference in the educational outcomes and daily lives of students with complex communication needs.

Role Details

Job Title: Specialist SLCN Support Assistant

Location: Bedford, MK42

Contract Type: Full-Time Contract (Monday to Friday)

Salary: Highly Competitive Daily Rate of £90 - £100 Per Day (Paid weekly via PAYE)

Core Responsibilities
  • Deliver targeted support to students with identified Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN).
  • Proactively implement and monitor personalised educational plans (IEPs / EHCPs) and specialised intervention strategies.
  • Work closely with Class Teachers, SENCOs, and external therapists to ensure a cohesive and supportive approach to learning.
  • Conduct detailed observations and provide accurate feedback on student progress, adapting strategies as needed.
  • Facilitate activities and interventions designed to enhance students' overall communication competence, social skills, and access to the curriculum.
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential

Education / Qualification: A recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy or a highly related field (e.g., Education, Psychology, or Special Educational Needs).

Experience: A minimum of 1 year of recent, demonstrable experience supporting individuals with SLCN within an educational or clinical environment.

Knowledge & Skills

Strong clinical understanding of diverse communication disorders and their educational impact.

Exceptional collaborative and communication skills for liaising with staff, parents, and external professionals.

Proven organisational skills and the ability to effectively manage a dynamic caseload.

Desirable (Highly Valued)

Additional professional development or certification in specific SLCN interventions (e.g., Makaton, PECS, ELKLAN).

Experience working with children and young people across various key stages.
