Job description

Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Adult Social Care Team. This full-time role focuses on delivering high-quality, person-centred functional assessments and interventions in line with the Care Act. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues, housing teams, and contractors to ensure safe, effective, and timely outcomes for service users.

  • Job Title: Occupational Therapist - Adult Social Care
  • Location: Barnet
  • Rate: £39.93 per hour
  • Contract Type: Full‑Time (Mon‑Fri)
  • Working Pattern: 1 day per week in the office, with flexibility to attend additional days as required
Key Responsibilities
  • Complete comprehensive functional assessments in accordance with the Care Act.
  • Participate in duty triaging and screening/signposting new referrals before adding them to the waiting list.
  • Design and recommend major adaptations including level‑access showers, stairlifts, ramps, and other bespoke solutions to promote independence.
  • Prescribe and arrange minor and major equipment to meet individual needs.
  • Undertake manual handling risk assessments and produce safe moving and handling plans.
  • Liaise with contractors, housing services, and grants officers for adaptation works.
  • Maintain accurate records and produce high-quality professional reports for funding applications and safeguarding processes.
Main Accountabilities
  • Deliver person‑centred interventions within agreed timescales.
  • Maintain compliance with legislation, safeguarding policies, and health and safety standards.
  • Contribute to continuous service improvement and development.
  • Represent Adult Social Care professionally within multi‑disciplinary forums.
Mandatory Experience
  • HCPC‑registered Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience within community‑based adult social care settings.
  • Strong understanding of equipment provision, housing adaptations, and manual handling.
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge of Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) and adaptation legislation.
  • Experience liaising with contractors and housing teams.
  • Ability to use electronic case management systems.
