Barber / Retail Assistant – Secure Care Division

The post holder will work within Rehabilitation and Recovery Services, primarily providing hair care/barber services to the patient population at Ashworth Hospital. The role also involves supporting the patient shop when required, transferring stock, stocking shelves, serving patients and ensuring appropriate use of the till system.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional barbering services to patients.
• Transfer and stock inventory for the patient shop.
• Serve patients and operate the till system accurately.
• Collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team, building effective relationships with patients and maintaining operational security.
• Deliver consistent, therapeutic patient care and adapt to evolving service needs.

Qualifications & Experience

• Essential: Experience in the barbering industry and competent/confident skill set.
• Desirable: Experience working within a secure mental health environment.

Additional Information

This is a flexible role that may require working across the Secure and SpLD Division, including Ashworth, Rowan View Medium Secure Unit or Low Secure Units depending on service requirement. The post is based at Ashworth High Secure Hospital.
