Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and undertake delegated tasks from the ward manager/charge nurse.
  • Following successful completion of foundation gateway, take charge of ward/department for a span of duty.
  • Always work within the NMC's Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.
  • Determine nursing priorities and plan patient care. Inform the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care.
  • Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust Guidelines.
  • Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit.
  • Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
  • Provide information and support to patients/carers, and ensure all those involved in the care are aware of changes in the patient's condition.
  • Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
  • Develop clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via both planned and unplanned routes.
  • Undertake expanded practice, under supervision, to optimise patient care in accordance with ward/department and Trust policies.
  • Involve patients and carers in the planning and delivering of care.
  • Ensure effective lines of communication within the ward/department multidisciplinary team.

We are seeking enthusiastic Midwives to join our pool of Staff Bank workers. There are many full-time roles available but as they are ever-changing, the exact roles available will be provided once your Hiring & Recruitment is complete. We can give you an idea of the type of roles available at the time of contact, but we cannot guarantee set roles as your hiring time may vary. Depending on previous relevant experience & previous NHS experience, higher banding/rates can be discussed.

Please be aware that there are several modules of practical trainings that will need to be completed before you can begin to work via the bank. These trainings are unpaid:

  • Prompt Study Day Including NLS Practical 1 Year
  • CTG Practical 1 year
  • Infant Feeding Practical 3 years
  • Safeguarding Children Level 3 Practical 3 years
  • Safeguarding Adults Level 3 Practical 3 years

For new entrants into the NHS, your pay under the Agenda for Change or Medical & Dental Pay Bands, will normally be set at the minimum of the pay band as advertised.
