Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a BANK Mental Health Nurse to join our Mental Health team at HMP Kirkham, a category D Prison located in Kirkham, Preston. We are looking for someone to support and coordinate a small team by managing planning, overseeing coordination and supporting junior team members. The prison’s healthcare department is where you will be based; the primary care team consists of 10 staff and HMP Kirkham has a capacity of 700 male inmates.

Responsibilities
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options.
  • Undertake medication rounds and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed.
  • Assess patients' health needs using an evidence‑based framework and conduct risk assessments using sound clinical knowledge.
  • Provide advice, support and information to individuals and manage a case load of patients.
  • Deliver non‑judgemental care that makes a real difference.
  • Monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects, liaising with prescribers as required.
  • Inspire excellence by forging strong links with partners and stakeholders.
  • Promote best practice, clinical supervision and evidence‑based care.
  • Share knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure safe care and build strong multi‑disciplinary teams, supporting each other to do a great job.
Qualifications
  • Qualified Mental Health Nurse – NMC registration.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Experience of working face‑to‑face with patients who have complex mental health conditions.
  • Experience of psychosocial interventions, group work and awareness of substance misuse.
  • Experience in a hospital, community or prison environment is desirable.
  • Legal right to work in the UK; offers of employment subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Hours and Rate

Bank hours: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 4 pm. Hourly rate: Weekdays £23.83 per hour.
